A medical tourist is a person who would like to minimize their costs of health care and therefore decides to travel abroad as a tourist. This provides them the option to deal with the medical issues on a lower budget, which are too costly in their own country. Dental care is one of the more expensive categories of medical care in most western countries. Keep in mind that most western countries don’t even have a very complete and affordable dental insurance plan for the population and even the insurance that exists for these people are limited. This means that even if they have insurance, they still frequently must pay out of pocket for any major services.

How do we at Gaya Dental cooperate with dental tourists?

We provide a step-by-step instruction on how to become one of our foreign patients. Whether you would like to visit Albania as a tourist for vacation along with dental treatments or if you would just like to have dental work done without the tourism, we are here to guide you every step of the way. Please follow these steps to get an online consultation and be provided with a diagnosis and treatment options free of charge. If you are interested in just visiting Albania for oral treatment and would like to plan your own vacation, that is an option, but if you would like us to plan a touristic package for you, that can also be done by prior request. If you request for us to plan your vacation, we will send you a questionnaire to understand your interests as we customize each person’s vacation plan and dental plan taking into consideration their interests and needs. In case you choose us to plan your vacation in Albania we will make sure to plan everything for you so that you can make the best out of your time. This includes where to stay, what to visit and when, along with transportation options and appointment times for the dental treatments will be planned ahead of time to make sure you enjoy your time in the country without the hassle of figuring out these little details in a foreign country. We are here to make your life easier and as comfortable as you wish, so please feel free to let us know to what extent you feel you need our help and we will do our best to accommodate your requests, making sure you have everything you need.

Dental Tourism protocol

STEP ONE  Get a panorama x-ray taken in your country and ask for a digital copy to be emailed to you.  Go to your local dentist and ask for a full consultation and a treatment plan listing everything you need to get done along with the prices in your country. Once you have the panorama and the treatment plan, please contact us via email mentioning your desire for dental treatment and any questions you may have. You must attach to the email your panorama and treatment plan from your local dentist.

STEP TWO We will send some documents for you to fill out while we use the panorama to diagnose everything you may possibly need while considering your local doctor’s plan and send back an email with treatment plan options along with answers to all your questions. At this point it may be needed to deliver other forms of information, for example, in the case you need implants you will need to get a 3D scan to continue, and we may request that you take some photos of your teeth and send it to us. Depending on what we find in the panorama, we will guide you further with what is needed to complete your file. If a 3D scan is costly in your country, there is also the option to get it done here in Albania as soon as you arrive, which means actual treatment plans and prices will only be provided after the 3D is completed.

STEP THREE: We will get back to you via email with treatment options and prices. Normally, we give people two to three options depending on their case. We will suggest all possible options and give you a choice. This applies for dental treatments as well as for people who request us to organize their vacation packages. Dental treatment options will include, for example, most economic, middle class, and luxury solutions. Vacation packages will be of a similar structure, such as budget, middle class, or luxury package.

STEP FOUR We offer a free video consultation to explain all details for dental treatment and tourism if requested to decide together how to proceed.

STEP FIVE Once you are clear in what your desire is, have picked your dental package along with tourism package if you’re interested in this option, we then proceed with making the appointments required to get you to us for the actual work. In this case we will discuss in details the “when and how” to realize the trip and help you with all aspects of the trip as requested.

At last, when you are arrive in Albania, we will make sure we are available for any questions you may have throughout your trip’s duration, which means you will be assigned a contact person from our company who will answer questions for you while you are in the country. The contact person guidance is FREE of charge. We offer this as a service to all our clients, even if it is just for a dental package. You are free to ask questions about anything you feel you need help with while in the country, such as about the culture or the customs of the people, traditions, or whereabouts of locations and recommendations on where to visit.

Sea, sun and a wonderful coastline

Vlora sits on a bay that marks the meeting of the Adriatic and the Ionian seas, which means clean waters and brilliant beaches. With over 300 sunny days a year too, it’s easy to see why it’s a popular beach resort. But if you prefer your beach to come with a side of city slicking, Vlorë also fits the bill.

The main reason why Vlora attracts tourists is the beauty of its beaches. You can enjoy the beach near urban areas, to see and hear the vitality of this city. You can also visit other beaches such as Plepat, Karaburun, Radhima, Orikum, Dhermi, Jala and many more.

Llogara National Park

Llogara is one of the most important and stunning natural parks in Albania. The National Park Llogara located on the slope of Mount Llogora has an altitude of 400-1300 meters from the sea level covering an area of 1010 hectares. A magnificent horizon opens from the Llogora slope providing a unique view of the lovely landscapes of the south Albanian Riviera, only available at this spot. It is a true natural masterpiece. It has been a well-known national park for years in numerous guide books.

The slope of Mount Llogora also has a strategic location. It is the only land passage uniting the Ionian coasts with the peninsula in Vlore. Even in the ancient times it has been used as a passage. At this natural paradise only the top of the mountains see the sun. A unique shade and mystery cover the area offering unparallel beauty making Llogora one of nature’s miracles in Albania.

Traditional food

Vlore area cuisine is typical of coastal and mountainous areas. The dairy products are taken from animals which are raised in the mountains by the sea. Here are some examples of traditional Albanian dishes: Byrek is a flaky pastry that is preferred by the people of Vlore to be filled with either field greens or just as a milky pie. The most important ingredients are fresh milk, flour, and field greens. Grilled meat is characteristic of Vlore, and is found in every restaurant. The nearness of the sea and the quality of pastures give the meat in this area an incomparable taste. Lamb from Karaburun cooked over an open fire is particularly delicious. Yogurt in Vlore is produced traditionally and is different than the yogurt produced in most of Europe. Arapash is similar to porridge and is cooked with corn flour, the intestines of lamb, cheese and butter. Raki is the traditional alcoholic drink of Albania and of course of Vlore too. The drink is typically grape-based, but you can also find raki made from blackberries and plums. Another typical dish for Vlore cuisine are plates with seafood, fish, mussels, shrimp, and lobster.

A rich sweep of history

Albania boasts a seriously eclectic history, from the Greeks and the Romans, through to the Ottomans and its years under a madcap socialist dictator, Enver Hoxha. Part of the attraction in visiting the Ethnographic Museum of Vlorë is enjoying the elegant 18th century building that houses it. The collection sweeps around the traditional folk costumes and traditions of the city, plus the surrounding region. The Museum of Historic Relics meanwhile pulls together finds from Vlorë and its surrounds.

Orikum Archaeological Park is a rarely visited gem, hidden away in a naval base south of the city. Ask at the museums above about arranging access to the site and its old Roman remnants.

Vlora is the City! Its where Albanian independence was won. The iconic Independence Monument and the obligatory billowing flag, pay homage to that fateful day.

The National Museum of Independence

A two-story house by the sea in Vlora, modest in architecture but rich in the weight of the events that narrate the history. The Museum of Independence is the strategic place where the red and black flag with the double-headed eagle was raised and the Independence of Albania was proclaimed on November 28, 1912. Museums around the world where their history and their buildings are so close to the sea are rare. Inside the museum you will find organised photos, documents, weapons, works of art, relics of Albanian personalities from the period of renaissance and national independence.

Old Town

" Lagjja Muradie" or otherwise known as the Old City, is one of the historical neighbourhoods of the city of Vlora and also constitutes a museum complex. It came to life in the middle of the 19th century. The road that passes through it was originally known as " Rruga e kafeneve", then in 1912 it was known as "Liria" street. This neighbourhood consists of a regular architectural system, with two and three-story buildings on both sides of the street, with a fairly good lighting system. Years ago the Municipality of Vlora took over the restoration of the old town, where history is intertwined with modernity, making Old Town one of the most visited destinations by citizens and foreigners.

Escape to Zvernec

A handy wooden bridge creaks over the Narta Lagoon to a tiny island, which used to be home to a community of monks. It’s ideal for a half day trip from Vlorë, as its just north-west of the city.

Zvernec is a real breath of fresh air. There is pleasantly little to actually see and do, simply ambling amongst the pines by the water, and paying a visit to the old 14th century church, St. Mary’s, which is the last resting place of a host of local luminaries. It’s part of a larger monastery complex that hails from the same period, which was built in Byzantine style.

Nightlife

Vlora is well known for its dynamic nightlife, especially in summer nights. You can find there any kind of club you want depending on your preferences, clubs that play traditional folk music or discos where you can party until morning with young and beautiful Albanian and foreign tourists.

We are looking forward to receiving you in our beautiful city of Vlora soon!
